Chelsa 4-0 Guangzhou Pharmaceutical

Check out the highlights
Chelsea started the Luiz Felipe Scolari era with a 4-0 victory over Guangzhou Pharmaceutical.
Scolari named a strong side for his first match in charge with Jose Bosingwa starting at right-back for the first time and Portugal international colleague Deco lining up in a four-man midfield with Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel and Frank Lampard.
Salomon Kalou played upfront with Nicolas Anelka and it was the Ivory Coast international who scored after 20 minutes with a calm finish from Lampard’s pass.
Bosingwa was substituted with a thigh injury after a short but impressive performance. Chelsea continued to dominate, playing with some fluency and style.
Essien was denied a second as Guangzhou goalkeeper Li Shuai saved well, and Anelka hit the post.
Petr Cech saved a Xu Liang free-kick , before Lampard made it 2-0 five minutes into the second half with a well crafted chip from 30 yards.
Argentine teenager Franco Di Santo scored a third goal on 78 minutes to put the match beyond doubt as he turned home Florent Malouda’s cross.
Shaun Wright-Phillips,out of favour but one of eight substitutes used by Scolari, then completed the easy victory in the dying minutes with a cool shot on the turn.
Chelsea continue their Asian tour with a match against Chengdu Blades on Saturday.
Robinho to go to Chelsea ?
July 20, 2008
Robinho’s agent has stated that Chelsea have made a ‘firm offer’ of £31.75million for the Real Madrid’s forward Robinho.
Cheksea have been associated with Robinho since Luiz Felipe Scolari was appointed as the new manager at Stamford Bridge earlier this summer. Scolari has woked with Robinho before and it is thought that both are eager to team up with each other again.
Robinho’s agent Wagner Ribeiro also stats that he has been contacted by Barcelona scout Pepe Costa, but he expects the 24-year-old to stay at the Bernabeu.
Ribeiro maintains that Real president Ramon Calderon is determined to keep Robinho, and he does not expect Chelsea to be successful with their opening bid.
“I don’t have an offer from Barca,” Ribeiro told Catalan radio station Onda FM.
“But a director from the club called me to see how things are going with the player.
“I told him that there was a firm offer from Chelsea for 40million euros (£31.75million) but that (Madrid president) Ramon Calderon didn’t want to transfer him.
“I am a man and I don’t lie and the director who called me is Pepe Costa.
“I think it is difficult for Robinho to move to Chelsea and even more so to Barcelona because of the rivalry that exists between the two clubs.
“I told (Madrid sporting director) Pedja Mijatovic that Barca called me but it’s as if Real Madrid wanted to sign Leo Messi.”
While we’re waiting to find out if Robinho does go to Chelsea check out some of his goals.
Aston Villa sign Sidwell from Chelsea
July 10, 2008
Sidwell has signed a three-year contract with Aston Villa after successfully getting through a medical and agreeing contractual terms.
Many clubs wewre keen on signing midfielder Sidwell, but AstonVilla won the race for the 25-year-old player.
Sidwell wanted to leave Chelsea to get consistent first team football after being unable to establish himself at Chelsea after his free transfer from Reading last year.
The former England Under 21 international is Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill’s first signing this summer and his arrival could allow Gareth Barry to move to Liverpool. Liverpool will be very keen for this to happen!
Sidwell is pleased to have joined Aston Villa and is excited about club’s future.
Excited
“I’m just over the moon to be able to join a club of this stature,” Sidwell stated in a recent interview.
“Obviously, after a hard year for myself to finally get a chance now to play football and enjoy it, he’s (O’Neill) got me looking forward to it.
“It’s dragged on for a while from the initial approach and, obviously, the media attention. Now it’s been done, it’s been a long saga, but I’m over the moon and can’t wait to meet my new team-mates, the manager, put my boots on and get out on the field.
“It was a case of as soon as I had the meeting with the manager and sitting down and talking to him, and seeing what direction him and the chairman are looking to take the football club and how well they had done last year, it was very easy.
“I’m looking forward to being among a good mixture of players that they’ve got here and hopefully there will be a few more additions to come.
“Obviously I had great times last year with there being Champions League football. There is a chance now to play in Europe and it’s still a fantastic competition to go ahead in.
“I’m sure the manager is going to want to do well just as much as the players. To play in Europe and to play some of the best teams in Europe is what you strive for as a football player. To get the chance to do it would be fantastic.”

Scolari keeps John Terry as Chelsea captain
July 8, 2008
New Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has confirmed John Terry will stay on as the club’s captain.
Terry has been the inspirational captain of Chelsea for the last four years after being given the armband when Jose Mourinho took charge as manager.
During his time as captain, John Terry has captained Chelsea to two Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League final and successes in both the FA Cup and Carling Cup.
England team-mate Frank Lampard will be captain if John Terry is injured or dropped!!.
Terry is a natural leader
“I like him as a captain,” Scolari said: ”I like him as a player and as a leader.
“Yesterday, he came to my room and he said I’m the captain John Terry and I said I know you and we spoke!
“The captain is John Terry and the second captain is Lampard, but we want more captains on the pitch.”
Scolari stated that he needed to get to know the Chelsea players before looking in detail at signing players.
He added: “I don’t know now how many changes I need because I need to train and I need to know the players because when you are on the outside, you have one idea, but when you are inside this group, you need to know the group, you need to know the characteristics and quality.
“After this, it’s possible to say how many changes I want or we need, or we do not need.”

Inter approach to Lampard rejected
July 8, 2008
Chelsea have rejected an approach from Inter Milan for Frank Lampard and will not discuss the transfer of the midfielder.
Lampard is Inter’s top summer target after former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was appointed coach of the Serie A champions.
Mourinho had previously suggested the Nerazzurri would have to wait until next summer to sign the 30-year-old, who has 12 months left on his contract but
rumours have been prevalent that Inter Milan wanted to take the Lampard to Serie A before the close of the transfer window.
Inter have tried to open discussions with Chelsea, but the Premier League club have dismissed Inter and say that Lampard is not for sale at any price.
No financial offer
“Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has received an official approach from Internazionale to discuss the possible transfer of Frank Lampard,” said a statement on the club’s official website.
“Contrary to reports no financial offer was made.
“Chelsea FC has informed Inter this morning that we will not enter into any discussions regarding the transfer of Frank Lampard.”
Lampard has been negotiating a new contract at Stamford Bridge, but hasn’t reached an agreement as yet.
Chelsea have now made their position unequivocal and will not part with a player who has scored 110 goals in nearly 370 appearances for Chelsea.
Arsenal to win the Premiership 2008-09
July 6, 2008
Welcome to my preview of the 2008-09 football season in Britain.
The Premiership has generally been dominated for a number of years now by the big 4 clubs- the most successful Manchester United, then Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. These clubs are not only dominating the premiership in England but also in Europe. The biggest club championship in Europe is the Champions league and Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea were 3 out of 4 semi-finalists with United eventually taking the trophy in a very hard fought final from Chelsea.
So is anything likely to change this year ? The answer is no. Manchester United may lose Ronaldo although it seems more and more unlikely as time goes on. Even if they do he’ll be replaced and they’ll still be strong title contenders in the premiership and in England.
These are my top 6 in the premiership this coming season:
-
ARSENAL;
-
MANCHESTER UNITED
-
LIVERPOOL
-
CHELSEA
-
EVERTON
-
BLACKBURN
1.Arsenal: Lets make it clear-I’m not an Arsenal supporter but at 11/2 with VC bet they make the best value bet of any of the top 6. Also for most of last season’s English premiership they played the most flowing, the most attractive football of any in the league. Arsenal don’t have the money available that Manchester United and Chelsea do but they do have one of the best two managers in the premiership . Arsene Wenger loves to play attractive football and if the over rated Adebayor was to leave his astute buying will allow him to find a good replacement. So at 11/2 a great bet.
2.Manchester United- United are,as usual, the favourites with bookmakers to win the premiership. The best value bet currently is 11/8 with skybet. United may be even stronger than last year with Sir Alex Ferguson looking to spend money on only one signing( assuming Ronaldo doesn’t go!!) .He’s probably looking at a top rate striker such as Berbatov of Spurs, or Santa Cruz of Blackburn. But the other top teams may be stronger than last year and so 11/8 is not really a good bet.
3.Liverpool: are at 8/1 to win the title. At first glance this looks to be a good bet. After all is Rafa Benitez likely to make the same mistake as last year and not play Torres enough. I hope Torres does play consistently but Liverpool’s problem over recent years has been their lack of consistency-one week brilliant ,the next terrible. I see nothing that’s going to change that so Liverpool’s best chance of a trophy lies in the Cup competitions. Additionally Torres is still a lone striker and so Liverpool lack real fire power. 8/1 seems a fair bet to me
4.Chelsea at 21/10 are second favourites to win the premiership. So why have I put them at only 4th?The answer is Scolari the new manger. He is known to be fiery and bad tempered. He’ll either be a huge success at Stamford Bridge of his abrasive style won’t go down well with the players. I have a feeling it may be a difficult season at the Bridge with Abramovich as usual exerting huge pressure on the manager. It’ll also be interesting to see how Deco from Barcelona settles in and if Frank Lampard does depart for sunnier climes.
See most of Chelsea’s premiership goals below.
5.Everton: with David Moyes had a great season last year. Finishing 5th was a massive achievement.
At 200/1 with William Hill if you want an outside bet to win the Premiership this is good value. But don’t bet too much because its probably not going to happen. With the expected improvement in the top 4 and also with Spurs the best they can hope for is 5th. But Moyes has established them as a good passing team and it would be good to see them do well. So if your heart wants a bet go for Everton.
-
Tottenham Hotspur:at 66/1with Paddy Power not a bad bet if you want to lose your money.. After the departure of Martin Jol as manager and the arrival of Juande Ramos last season Spurs played with far more consistency climbing to 11 th in the table. They also won the Carling Cup which allowed them qualification into the UEFA cup. They’ll play attractive football but with darren Bent in poor form and Aaron Lennon current lacking popularity a cup competition again seems to be the best bet.
So these are my top 6. only my opinion of course and hey I’m not Alan Hansen. Watch out for my next article on the relegation stakes!

Deco joins Chelsea for £7.9 million.
June 30, 2008
Chelsea have completed the signing of Barcelona playmaker Deco for an estimated fee of £7.9million.
Deco has signed a two year deal and Chelsea hope he will be the key to unlocking the premiership this season.
The 30-year-old is Luiz Felipe Scolari’s first signing, despite the fact that the Brazilian does not take over at Stamford Bridge until Tuesday.
A statement on Chelsea’s official website said: “Chelsea football club is delighted to confirm the signing of Deco from FC Barcelona.”
Scolari reunion
Summer speculation consistently linked Deco with a move to Chelsea and Scolari’s arrival at Chelsea fuelled the rumours to fever pitch.
Former Portugal boss Scolari coached Deco, and it was thought that both he and Scolari were keen to work together again.
Having now completed the deal, the Chelsae could see Deco as a possible replacement for Frank Lampard, who is being linked with a move to Internazionale.
Deco must be praying that Chelsea will win trophies this season or he and Scolari may find themselves on the back burner !
“I am sure I have come at the right time to do great things and be able to help Chelsea go back to the way it was,” Deco told Chelsea TV.
“The Premier League is a great league and it is getting better and you can see that with the Champions League final, where you had two English teams.
“It is great that we have so many great players here at Chelsea and it is great that there is the competition which is healthy for everybody and this just makes the team better.
“To have great players in any position of the club just enhances the club. I know it is a new challenge but I am looking forward to it.
“I know I need a little bit of time to adapt, but I am sure I will adapt quite well and quite fast and do my best for the team.”
So what next for Chelsea- success?
Deco will certainly hope so.
