In a real end to end match at Goodison Park on the first day of the premiership season Blackburn rovers ran out eventual winners 3-2 after a last minute winning goal by OOije.

 Dunn had opened the scoring for Blackburn in the 22nd minute but Arteta equaliised for the visitors before half-time.

Everton were dominant as Yakubu scored to make it 2-1 .  Santa Cruz equalized  for Blackburn 2 minutes later and then Ooije scored the winning goal for the Rovers with a superb header.
