Alex Ferguson and Ronaldo are reconciled ???

July 19, 2008

In a transfer saga with as many ups and downs as a theme park rollercoaster Alex Ferguson has taken the moral highground from Real Madrid by stating that he never had any intetion to sell Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo is under contract and will not be going anywhere. Ferguson and Ronaldo met yesterday and whilst there is no current record of what was said Alex Ferguson, tough and uncompromising as he is, will have made his views clearly known to ’slave’ Ronaldo.

I believe that Ronaldo won’t leave United but he has made no friends by comparing himself with a modern day slave.

Robbie Keane transfer update

July 18, 2008

According to recent reports Liverpool are set to sign Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane, for the sum of around £20 million for the Republic of Ireland international.

According to the Liverpool Echo the transfer could be completed in the next 2 days after Spurs boss Juande Ramos stated that he needs the money!

The former Leeds and Coventry forward is believed to be eager to move to Anfield and Ramos’ comments at a pre-season training camp in Spain appeared to suggest that both Keane and Dimitar Berbatov could be on their way.

He commented: “We will see what happens there, but we are talking about two very important players.

“For the moment they are with us, but whatever happens the idea is to have a great squad, with the potential to allow us to aim to improve on what we managed last season.

“We have to be realistic and see what we are starting with and who we are competing against.

“There are some big clubs who have spent a lot of money over many years and have a certain advantage. In fact they claim they want to sign some of our players.

“At Tottenham, we have had a clear philosophy regarding buying and selling for years. The idea is signing young players, promising and talented ones, and if important offers for older players are made, studying it to see what is the best for the club.”

Keane is valued in the region of £20m having only cost Spurs £7m in 2002 but Liverpool will offer less in the hope of achieving a cut price bargain !

EB Streymur 0 Manchester City 2

July 17, 2008

Manchester City made a winning start to the Mark Hughes era as they defeated EB/Streymur 2-0 in the first leg of their Uefa Cup qualifying tie.

City, who  made it into the competition through the Fair Play league, quickly established flowing football against the small club from the Faroe Islands.

Record signing Jo played for City for the first time and played well in the first half as City opened up a 2-0 lead.

Martin Petrov opened the scoring after  nine minutes as Michael Johnson dummied a Darius Vassell cross and the Bulgarian shot home stylishly.

Dietmar Hamann then hit a great second after 28 minutes as he  volleyed into the top corner.

City threatened again before the break but found it much harder at the start of the second half as EB/Streymur began to play with more coherency and tactical awareness

However, Joe Hart Manchester City’s keeper, was never seriously tested and City could have gone 3 nil up when substitute Ched Evans missed a good chance late in the game.

Hughes’ men should now complete the win at Oakwell later this month and advancing to the second qualifying round.

Lampard to go -or not to go ?

July 17, 2008

Chelsea star Frank Lampard is uncertain  whether to ask for a transfer or wait until the final 12 months of his contract at Stamford Bridge are completed, according to Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti.

Inter want to sign Lampard and have made an offer for Lampard but have so far had no feedback from Chelsea, who are not willing to negotiate.

“Lampard is a very serious lad and certainly he is torn between having the pleasure of something new or having a sense of duty towards his current club. In the end it is up to him to find a solution,” commented Moratti.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are looking at alternative transfer targets in case they are unable to bring the England international to Serie A to renew his partnership with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

“Lampard is the priority but naturally in cases like this I have been looking around for some time,” Moratti told Inter’s own television station..

“If it is not possible to take Lampard, we would take a player with the most similar characteristics.”

Platini wants to limit football wages.

July 16, 2008

Michelle Platini intends to limit football wages
The UEFA President has stated that he will try to limit the wages that a club can offer. Ever increasing  wages will only lead to ensuring that an elite few rich clubs  will dominate still further by paying wages that their less successful counterparts cannot afford.Michelle Platini proposes that the clubs should only be allowed to spend on wages between 55%-65% of their income. The Frenchman added that this measure will be applied only if the clubs agree . It won’t be something imposed by UEFA.

So the point of this is what exactly ? Does Platinin really expect rich clubs to give up their advantage by paying players less. Dream on Platini!!

The increasing wage issue has become world news after the  recent Cristiano Ronaldo controversy. Real Madrid are trying to buy him out of his Manchester United contract by offering a huge wage and transfer price. United don’t want to sell. Therefore a man earning millions of pounds every year is ,according to Sepp Blatter, a wage slave.

Watch Platini play. Remind yourself of just how good he was !!

Robinho to go to Chelsea ??

July 16, 2008

Real Madrid’s attacking midfielder has been  linked with a possible move to premiership runners up Chelsea. Although Robinho is happy in Spain it appears that he may want to sign for the Brazilian coach Luis Felipe Scolari, who influenced him earlier on in his career. Scolari, now manager at Chelsea has registered an interest  on the 24-year-old Brazilian international.

Robinho might be willing to go as he feels that Real have minstreated him by wanting  to include the Brazilian in a package that included Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival in Madrid. This made the number 10 think that he is not vaued by Real Madrid and might move to Chelsea if the terms are good enough.

Robinho’s agent commented:‘What’s making Robinho seriously consider accepting Chelsea’s offer is that Scolari helped him a lot when he still wasn’t very well known in Europe’

There’s no doubt that players remain loyal to Scolari even when they no longer play for him so it may well be that Robinho does go to Chelsea.

Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry returns to training

July 15, 2008

Midfielder Gareth Barry will return to training with Aston Villa  on Wednesday still feeling unsettled pending imminent transfer elsewhere.

The England international has been left out of the club’s pre-season plans after he  publically criticised manager Martin O’Neill’s handling of his possible move to Liverpool.

Villa and Liverpool have been arguing over the future of Barry since the end of last season, but have  been unable to agree on a  transfer fee.

Liverpool have had  a number of offers turned down by their Premier League rivals, who are  holding out for £18million.

O’Neill stated on Tuesday morning that Arsenal also want to sign Barry, while that he may ,of course, still be at Villa Park next season.

With Barry due to return to training, he could now play in Aston Villa’s Intertoto Cup match away to Danish side Odense on Saturday.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “The club can confirm that Gareth Barry will be back in training at Bodymoor Heath tomorrow (Wednesday).”

Ryan Giggs or Frank Lampard ? Who’s in your team ?

July 15, 2008

Let’s assume that Ryan Giggs and Frank Lampard are the same age ,who would you want in your team ?

Both are talented, gifted footballers, personally I think Ryan Giggs is the better player but I’m not going to talk about that today. Lets have a look at some facts.

Ryan Giggs: has won every honour that the game has(well almost) including ten premiership league medals ( a record) , and two European Champions League medals.Additionally he now holds the record for the most number of personal appearances for Manchester United, beating the great Bobby Charlton.

The best thing about Giggs though is his loyalty to Manchester United .When he was 30,coincidentally the same age as Frank Lampard is now,his contract ran out at United. United, tough as they are, would only offer him a two year contract. He had an ideal opportunity and excuse to disappear and rake in lots of money at another club. Despite the shortness of the contract and the fact that he was only(!) earning £65000 a week, half of Lampard’s projected earnings at Inter Milan if he is to move, Ryan Giggs exhibited loyalty to the club that had made him successful and famous ,knuckled down to work and stayed.

Lets look at Lampard. He is determined to stay at Chelsea only if they offer him a five year contract on his terms So is Lampard having a justified ’sulk’ at not being treated properly or is it just an excuse to leave Chelsea ?

There are a lot of  very good reasons for Lampard to wish to play in Italy, but pretending to be angry at Chelsea’s approach to contract negotiations should be the very least of them. So let’s be honest Frank- more money, better lifestyle ?

Lets have the truth.

Check out some of Ryan Giggs’ best moments in the video below ! Ten minutes long- great video.

Enjoy!
