West Ham United vs Arsenal Betting Preview
October 24, 2008
Arsenal have to go into this match as favourites. The most accomplished team of youngsters in the Premiership, possibly in the world, go into this match off the back of an unexpected 5-2 thrashing of Fenerbache in the European Champions league. Despite fielding almost a reserve team Arsenal played fluent, skilful football and made victory look easy in one of the most feared fortresses in Europe.
West Ham United meanwhile, come into this match off the back of 2 successive defeats.Last week they lost 1-0 against Premiership new boys and minnows Hull City. Okay so Hull have done brilliantly so far in the Premiership-they’re third at the moment but even so West Ham ,under new manager Giafranco Zola should have done better.
It can be argued that West Ham were unlucky to lose the game against Hull and the previous game against Bolton. In both games West Ham dominated much of the match but failed to convert a lot of chances which would have given them victory. Positives were that Craig Bellamy managed to play a full match, negatives are that Zolastill has a number of players: Ashton,Spector, Dyer out through injury.
Arsenal are a superb attacking team. For the game against Fenerbache, however, their defence was a makeshift one as Wenger was forced to field a team without three regular defenders, Toure, Gallas and Sagna. Eboue moved to right back whilst Silvestre and Song filled the centre. The defence looked shaky and vulnerable and if Wenger is forced to field the same defence West Ham could cause the fragile back four problems.
Whatever the out come its my feeling that the match will have plenty of goals but that in the end it will turn out to be a win for Arsenal, probably 2-0.

Aston Villa Liverpool Match Preview
August 28, 2008
So its Week 3 of the Premiership season and Aston Villa are playing Liverpool at Villa Park. Traditionally these have been good matches and often closely fought although in recent years Liverpool have the better record. As the match is live on Sky Sports on Sunday we could be in for a closely fought treat.
Aston Villa have started a little inconsistently but they have scored freely in their first 2 games in a 4-2 win over Manchester City and an exciting draw with Sunderland-only deprived of a win by a last minute equaliser which highlighted some weaknesses in defence.
Liverpool and Chelsea are the only two teams in the premiership who have won their two first matches this season . Liverpool’s form may flatter to deceive ,however, as both their wins have been close fought contests with Liverpool playing dour, unimaginative football. It may be that Torres’ and Keane’s new partnership will start to gel and the team will click but I believe that its too early for this and that Liverpool’s inconsistency of last season will continue.
The logical result for this game is a draw but I believe,I don’t really know why, that Aston Villa are going to sneak it.Its about time they won against Liverpool.

Sunderland vs Liverpool Betting Preview Premiership Saturday 16th August Kick off 5.30 pm
August 13, 2008
Sunderland last season were expected by many to be one season premiership wonders. Roy Keane has high standards and always expects his players to sweat blood for the team and for the result. Were sunderland lucky to stay up last year- no. Will they stay up this year -yes.
Keane has strengthened the team with 4 strongish close season signings: Malbranque, Tainio and Chimbondo have all arrived from Spurs whilst the most exciting signing from Sunderland’s point of view is the erratic, entertaining and occasionally brilliant Diouf. A snip at £2.5 million.
Liverpool meanwhile are beginning to be classed as the Premiership’s underachievers. They finished 4th last season but had a dire October and November which cost them dear. When you think of Liverpool now, you think inconsistency. You never know how they’re going to perform; a situation not helped by Rafa Benitez and his unsuccessful rotation system last season.
Perhaps with the arrival of Robbie Keane to team up with Torres up front things will change and Liverpool will win their first premiership for 20 years. If they fail it could see the demise of Benitez with American owners and Liverpool supporters impatient for premiership success.
So what’s going to happen on Saturday: first day results are difficult to predict. In the last 6 seasons ,however,Liverpool have won 4 times with Sunderland’s only success being 2-1 in 2002.
My feeling is that on Saturday its going to be a draw, probably 1-1. Best odds for this are:14/5 with Bet Chronicle.

Arsenal to win the Premiership 2008-09
July 6, 2008
Welcome to my preview of the 2008-09 football season in Britain.
The Premiership has generally been dominated for a number of years now by the big 4 clubs- the most successful Manchester United, then Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. These clubs are not only dominating the premiership in England but also in Europe. The biggest club championship in Europe is the Champions league and Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea were 3 out of 4 semi-finalists with United eventually taking the trophy in a very hard fought final from Chelsea.
So is anything likely to change this year ? The answer is no. Manchester United may lose Ronaldo although it seems more and more unlikely as time goes on. Even if they do he’ll be replaced and they’ll still be strong title contenders in the premiership and in England.
These are my top 6 in the premiership this coming season:
-
ARSENAL;
-
MANCHESTER UNITED
-
LIVERPOOL
-
CHELSEA
-
EVERTON
-
BLACKBURN
1.Arsenal: Lets make it clear-I’m not an Arsenal supporter but at 11/2 with VC bet they make the best value bet of any of the top 6. Also for most of last season’s English premiership they played the most flowing, the most attractive football of any in the league. Arsenal don’t have the money available that Manchester United and Chelsea do but they do have one of the best two managers in the premiership . Arsene Wenger loves to play attractive football and if the over rated Adebayor was to leave his astute buying will allow him to find a good replacement. So at 11/2 a great bet.
2.Manchester United- United are,as usual, the favourites with bookmakers to win the premiership. The best value bet currently is 11/8 with skybet. United may be even stronger than last year with Sir Alex Ferguson looking to spend money on only one signing( assuming Ronaldo doesn’t go!!) .He’s probably looking at a top rate striker such as Berbatov of Spurs, or Santa Cruz of Blackburn. But the other top teams may be stronger than last year and so 11/8 is not really a good bet.
3.Liverpool: are at 8/1 to win the title. At first glance this looks to be a good bet. After all is Rafa Benitez likely to make the same mistake as last year and not play Torres enough. I hope Torres does play consistently but Liverpool’s problem over recent years has been their lack of consistency-one week brilliant ,the next terrible. I see nothing that’s going to change that so Liverpool’s best chance of a trophy lies in the Cup competitions. Additionally Torres is still a lone striker and so Liverpool lack real fire power. 8/1 seems a fair bet to me
4.Chelsea at 21/10 are second favourites to win the premiership. So why have I put them at only 4th?The answer is Scolari the new manger. He is known to be fiery and bad tempered. He’ll either be a huge success at Stamford Bridge of his abrasive style won’t go down well with the players. I have a feeling it may be a difficult season at the Bridge with Abramovich as usual exerting huge pressure on the manager. It’ll also be interesting to see how Deco from Barcelona settles in and if Frank Lampard does depart for sunnier climes.
See most of Chelsea’s premiership goals below.
5.Everton: with David Moyes had a great season last year. Finishing 5th was a massive achievement.
At 200/1 with William Hill if you want an outside bet to win the Premiership this is good value. But don’t bet too much because its probably not going to happen. With the expected improvement in the top 4 and also with Spurs the best they can hope for is 5th. But Moyes has established them as a good passing team and it would be good to see them do well. So if your heart wants a bet go for Everton.
-
Tottenham Hotspur:at 66/1with Paddy Power not a bad bet if you want to lose your money.. After the departure of Martin Jol as manager and the arrival of Juande Ramos last season Spurs played with far more consistency climbing to 11 th in the table. They also won the Carling Cup which allowed them qualification into the UEFA cup. They’ll play attractive football but with darren Bent in poor form and Aaron Lennon current lacking popularity a cup competition again seems to be the best bet.
So these are my top 6. only my opinion of course and hey I’m not Alan Hansen. Watch out for my next article on the relegation stakes!
