The domino effect of draft signings continued on Monday, as the Philadelphia Eagles signed second-round choice LeSean McCoy to a four-year contract. McCoy, a running back who will aim to ease the load of Brian Westbrook, is the first second-round choice to ink. As is typical, late-round choices agree to terms first while early picks may bargain up to training camp, with some holding out. Those that do “hold out” and wait to sign until after training camp begins put themselves and their prospective squads at a disadvantage - as valuable time is lost for development and improvement.

It is during these dog days that intense physical conditioning and mental preparation are carried out behind the scenes, as baseball and the NBA assume the spotlight. However, in just a few months the sweat of the present will be on display.
